How To Buy Textbooks in Online Bookstores

Online bookstores are sprouting out on the Web, going against traditional campus bookstores, offering lower prices and a hassle-free shopping experience for students. Imagine, without even leaving your own room, with only your computer and the internet, students can already order their books and wait for them to be shipped to their doorstep.
In order to find the best deals and make shopping online easier, students like you only need to follow these simple steps:
  • Know the ISBN. To make buying textbooks online easier and error-free, online bookstores will ask for the ISBN number of the books you are looking to buy. These numbers are unique to the book and exact edition you are looking for - making it a foolproof way to identify the exact title you need. You start shopping online with these numbers, so make sure you ask your professor what the ISBN number of the book you need is.

  • Use comparison sites to check prices. Not only can you buy textbooks online, you can also find sites to help you look for great deals online. These sites will look at the popular bookstores and with one search, show you which sites have the book you are looking for and their prices.

  • Buy safe. Make sure that the site can be trusted before you buy, to not be scammed online. Look for recommendations or feedback on the site before you buy. This is the easiest way to make sure you are not wasting your money on nothing.

  • Join membership sites. Most online bookstores offer membership, and give perks to those who are members - either through discounts, rewards or free shipping. You can also sign up for alerts sent via email to be informed if there are deals on the books you need.

  • Buy more to save more. If you are looking for more than one book, consider buying them from one online bookstore. The rational for this is that sites might offer buyers more savings for buying more. For example, you might also save on shipping of the books, as well as possibly earning more rewards should the site offer them.

  • Add shipping costs. Thankfully, most sites will already ask for your zip code when you start the search, in order to incorporate shipping costs when you get the overall price. A book might seem cheaper, but if the store ships them from out of state, shipping might add up to the cost and make it more expensive.

  • Be an early bird. As in the saying, early birds catch the early worm. By starting your search early and buying before everyone else does, you are ensuring that you have your book before stocks run out and prices go up.
These are the simple rules you need to put to mind when looking for textbooks to buy in online bookstores - just follow them and end up with greater savings and an easy online buying experience.

Healthy Foods for a Starving Student: It's Possible!

It is common knowledge that being a starving student includes eating low priced, highly processed foods to keep their brains working. This is a total myth! Did you know that you can spend just as much money on nutritious, healthy food that won't break your bank account, keep you energized, thinking clearly and doesn't any time at all?
Here are some great foods to stock up on with some recipe ideas to make sure you stay full, energized and healthy. You will want to make sure you have a small fridge with a small freezer so you can store the essential fresh items we will list. Remember, you will find yourself saving money Instead of wasting money on expensive take-out pizza, consider this quick, easy and much healthier option:
• Purchase a stack of whole wheat pita bread, top with pizza sauce, cheese, veggies and a lean meat for a high protein quick meal.
• Pasta is great to store in your dorm room and cost-effective. Just make sure you purchase the whole wheat or whole grain type. Stay away from white pasta or Ramen. Whole grains help you eat less and stay fuller longer.
• For a quick snack, store pieces of fruit and cut up some veggies ahead of time to store in plastic bags. This way you will be able to grab them quickly when on the run to class.
• Eggs are a quick and easy breakfast that will keep you full of protein and energy. Eggs also last a long time. Store in your fridge and prepare ahead of time by hard boiling or scrambling with ham, salsa, veggies and your favorite spices. Heat up in the microwave for roughly a minute and roll up in a whole wheat tortilla for a healthy breakfast-on-the-go.
• Stock up on whole wheat bread, legumes, frozen veggies, chicken or beef stalk, whole grain rice and try to stay away from highly processed ready-prepared foods. Some great healthy snack alternatives are popcorn, whole grain crackers, nuts and dried fruits.
Here is a great basic recipe where you can substitute any of the above ingredients we listed. This stir fry goes well with rice, pasta or beans along with any type of veggie or meat you have available:
½ cup whole wheat rice or pasta, dry
½ tablespoon olive oil
¼ red pepper, in strips

½ cup green pepper, in strips
½ carrots, shredded

1 cup broccoli cuts
Teriyaki or soy sauce, amount per your taste

- Boil water for the rice or pasta. Follow instructions on the rice or pasta bag, adjusting for ½ cup of rice. Pour the olive oil into the deepest frying pan you have. Add all of the veggies, and then turn on medium heat.
- Cover and let steam for about 10 minutes. Move the veggies around with a spatula occasionally to make sure that the frozen bits hug the bottom of the pan. It's normal to have some water at the bottom. The vegetables should begin to look more vibrant in color.
- Drizzle your sauce throughout the pan, covering all vegetables. Adjust the amount based on your taste.
- Move the vegetables around with a wooden spoon to make sure the sauce covers all of them evenly. Then let sit for 5 minutes on low heat.

Valor Behind the Scenes - Clinical Research Associate

It's not often that we stop to think about what life would be like without clinical research associates to monitor food and drug tests. One answer is that it would probably be a lot like the past, when regulations were less stringent. All we have to do is think back fifty, sixty, seventy years to realize the importance of drug and food monitoring. There was the Elixir Sulfanilamide Incident, where a medication prescribed to patients with strep throat resulted in the premature death of more than a hundred Americans. You also have the thalidomide baby tragedy, which caused babies in North American and Europe to be born with life-changing deformations such as missing limbs, a tragedy that continues to make headlines still, and for good reason: Good clinical research can save lives and preserve health, and we must not ever forget that.
Quick History
This discipline actually has very long roots - Persian philosopher Ibn Sina was writing about a primitive form of clinical research trial in the 10th century. But the field did not see significant evolution until the 20th century, when the United States brought in change by passing the Pure Food and Drug Act. By the late '40s, the international community had gotten in on the act, with many countries choosing to adhere to the Nuremberg Code, which set out some ethical guidelines for researchers.
An Early Hero
American chemist (and Civil War vet) Harvey Washington Wiley broke new ground that students in the discipline around the world continue to learn about today. His "poison squad" volunteered themselves as guinea pigs for questionable substances - an unorthodox method that nonetheless underscored the importance of testing.
The Situation Today: Who Can Train to Become a Clinical Research Associate?
You have probably seen advertisements for clinical research courses. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, most cities have them.
However, it should be noted that these courses are not the kind of thing that you can simply sign up for straight out of high school. Although requirements may vary, depending, for instance, on the school, or the city (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc.), most people who embark on a certificate in this subject already have some kind of healthcare or science-related degree, for example:
- nursing
- physical therapy
- ultrasound technician
- biology
- chemistry
- physics

In fact, many of the people who take clinical research training do so as part of their job. Often it is employers who encourage their employees to seek additional training in order to become a clinical research associate.
In conclusion, clinical research associates may work in relative obscurity, but they are lifesavers for whom we should be eternally grateful.

Clinical Research - A Second Career for Health and Science Professionals

Who might you reasonably expect to find enrolled in clinical research courses? Whether in Toronto or Tokyo, no matter where you are, the answer is likely to include a certain percentage of students who come from health or sciences.
In fact, one recent online survey identified "clinical research associate" as an ideal second career for people 50 and over. Why is this such an attractive career choice for people in this age bracket? There are many reasons.
1. Highly developed sense of responsibility
The graduates of clinical research training safeguard the safety of our food and drug supply. They must blend legal knowledge with laboratory know-how; good recording skills with good organizational skills. In some cases, they may be responsible for an entire team. They may be subjected to an audit. They must be able to communicate with colleagues, clients and government officials. They need the motivation to stay up to date on developments in their field.
2. One of the markets for clinical research training is employers
One reason that clinical research courses abound is that there is a demand for them, and that demand comes from employers who want well-trained employees. By registering their employees in related programs, employers ensure that employees have adequate training in such clinical mainstays as:
- pharmacology
- biopharmaceuticals
- medical devices
- biotech
- pathology
- anatomy
- physiology
- estimating costs
- allocating resources
- development protocols
- best practices
- developing products
So, if you are already employed by a pharmaceutical firm or food producer, you may want to use the connections that you already have to segue into a second career in the laboratory.
3. Competitive salary
As a highly trained professional, a clinical research associate can expect to make a good income, as much as $80,000 a year, by some estimates. This is good news at any stage of life, but all the more so as the retirement years draw closer, when you want to make sure that you have enough money to last until the end of your life.
4. Demand for associates
If you look up jobs for graduates of clinical research courses on job boards, they will all likely show the same thing: postings galore. Of course the number of posts that come up in a search depends on the market (both generally and locally) but it is a good idea to keep your eye out for new openings.
Intrigued? If you are already employed, find out if your employer offers any re-training programs. If not, look near you for clinical research courses. Most major cities should offer them. Good luck with launching your second career!

How to Make Your Graduation a Memorable Experience

If you've got a graduation coming up, you might already be thinking about how you can celebrate and commemorate this special occasion. Graduations don't come around very often - so if you want to make yours as memorable as possible, here are a few things to consider:
Invite family and friends
Your graduation is a very special time in your life - but like any important event, it's made even more special when you can share it with the ones you love. Seeing the pride on the faces of your family, and seeing the joy shared by your friends will turn your graduation into a happy family memory that can be enjoyed and talked about for many years to come. Make sure you invite your family and friends to watch as you receive your degree or diploma, so they can share your special moment.

Plan a party or reception
Whether you choose to host a small gathering, or a large reception, getting together to celebrate with your family or a group of friends is a great way to create a lasting memory. For most people, graduations will happen only once or twice in a lifetime - so make sure you give the occasion the attention it deserves by turning it into an all-day or all-night event!

Make a record with photos and a graduation ceremony video
Even the best memories can quickly be forgotten without something to serve as a reminder. Photos are a great way to record the joy of your graduation - and they also serve as a great way to trigger other small, forgotten details from the day. A graduation ceremony video is an even better way to make your graduation memorable - so if you have the chance, make sure you purchase a video of you receiving your degree or diploma. Then you can share it with friends, family, and watch it again in the years to come.

Frame or hang your certificate
Don't let your valuable degree or diploma sit and gather dust in an old box - hang it on the wall where it can be seen and appreciated! If you have an office space, hang your degree or diploma to show your clients where and what you have studied. Or, just hang it in a special place in your home to remind you of all your hard work, and special achievements.

Graduation memorabilia
Many people choose to purchase a graduation ring to commemorate their achievements. Most Universities offer Alumni rings in different colours and sizes - so both men and women can wear a stylish reminder of their education, their graduation, and what they have accomplished!

Finally, the best way to make your graduation a memorable experience is to let yourself enjoy it. Relax, the hard work is over - it's time to celebrate what you have achieved!

Two Different Roads to Choose From After Audio School - Artistic and Commercial

On the one hand, you have one of Canada's best known playwrights, Quebec City's Robert Lepage. He is an international leader in the use of audio techniques for the theatre. His nine-hour play Lipsynch features a character with audio production college know-how. On the other, you have such international adult contemporary and pop sensations as CĂ©line Dion and Shania Twain. What do these famous Canadians have in common? They all require the services of audio school grads.
If you are enrolled in audio school, take the time now to figure out where you are heading. Would you like to work in the theatre or would you like to work in a commercial recording studio?
Theatre sound production
Right now is an exciting time for graduates of audio training to embark on a career in the theatre. In the past, the goal of theatre sound production audio school programs was to teach students how to reinforce live sound in such a way as to make it sound as natural as possible. Proof of how well the job was done lay primarily in how invisible the audio production college grad was.
Not so anymore. In the last decade, there has been a sound revolution on theatrical stages from London to New York. Audio training grads who work in theatre are now called upon to apply a greater range of audio school techniques to theatre sound production. They use explicit voice-overs; audience members are provided with microphones; and, in some cases, the sound techs are even directly visible on stage.
Audio school students who take this route should do so out of a love of experimentation. They may need to travel from city to city, and may live contract to contract. They must be flexible, imaginative and open to change.
Studio recording
Other audio production college grads may prefer to seek a line of work where their work is presented pre-recorded to the audience. They may want to work in recording studios. If so, they may want to look for an audio school that offers internships in a recording studio. Some schools also have a project in which students are asked to draw up a plan and budget for setting up their own recording studio.
One advantage of this line of work is that recording studios are designed with sound quality in mind, unlike in the theatre, where audio school grads know that they have to roll with the punches. After all, errors and slip-ups are part of what gives the theatre its grace.
Audio school perfectionists may prefer to seek out a studio-based career rather than suffer the imperfections of a live performance.
But, there's nothing stopping audio production college students from pursuing a career in both these lines. Some audio production careers are built piecemeal, contract by contract. Those audio training students who really like the idea of a variety may want to pursue a double specialization in the sound production for the stage, as well as for the studio.

What Do You Think of When You Hear Automotive Training?

When you hear the words "automotive training," what kind of student do you picture? An aspiring automotive service technician? The fact is that many auto colleges offer a wider range of courses, for dispatchers, managers, salespeople and truck drivers alike.
Automotive training for dispatchers
Dispatchers learn how to use the two-way radio and other tools of the trade at dispatcher-specific courses offered in the same kind of establishments as cater to aspiring mechanics.
Why automotive training helps dispatchers: Dispatchers who go on to work for trucking companies will be required to use a variety of sophisticated logistics software packages. Learning them in school can give new job applicants a real edge over the competition, because it gives them a chance to try out new skills in a more relaxed atmosphere where failure does not translate into money lost.
For managers, too
Running a garage involves technical know-how, but that is not all. It is a business, and, as such, garage owners and managers must know how to manage their automotive technician team so as to best serve their customers. They must develop good communications skills and strategize.
Why automotive training helps managers: It can be a real time-saver to get industry-specific management advice. A normal business class can only go so far!
Don't forget automotive training for salespeople
Some automotive service technician training programs are offered alongside programs for salespeople.
Why?: The car industry has seen a lot of turbulence over the past decade. The American manufacturing industry experienced a real dip for economic reasons, and the Japanese market suffered after the tsunami. As odd as it may seem, the lack of new cars led to a lack of used cars. In the past, many so-called used cars were actually remaindered vehicles. This lack of cars led used cars to go up in price, making the used car market a much tougher market for salespeople to navigate.
An automotive training program for salespeople can also help students understand the changing needs of their customers, many of whom will be looking for more fuel-efficient and less polluting options. A course can quickly bring a salesperson up to speed on the changing profile of today's consumers!
And, last but not least, truck drivers
Some of the same schools that provide training in how to become an automotive technician also cater to truck drivers, preparing them to get their necessary licenses.
One other bonus of having all these auto-related subjects being offered under the same roof is that it can increase students' exposure to other people within their industry. An automotive service technician, for example, can start to build their professional network by interacting informally with the managers-in-training. Similarly, dispatchers and truck drivers may benefit from early exposure to one another at automotive training school. In this way, automotive schools offer a kind of synergy, which some students may find exciting.

The Best Healthcare Training for Your Personality Type

"If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else," said Yogi Berra. That is true for anything in life, including healthcare training.
It's not enough to say that you want to enroll in a healthcare course. You need to get more specific about your goals. Where would you like to work? Perhaps you picture yourself at the front desk of a busy clinic, or helping an elderly patient stay in their own home for as long as possible. Perhaps you don't picture yourself working with humans at all.
These are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself before enrolling in your first healthcare course. In the meantime, here are three exciting careers for three different personalities.
For the person who enjoys one-on-one contact over the hustle and bustle of a healthcare facility
You love the idea of caring for people - that's why are interested in getting a healthcare diploma in the first place - but you'd rather care for one person at a time. You may want to consider seeking personal support worker training that will enable you, for example, to help patients in the tasks of daily living in the comfort of their own homes.
This kind of healthcare training can also prepare you for a career in an institution or clinic. But if you know that you would prefer to work in private homes, you may be able to tailor your healthcare training to your goal.
For the introvert
Looking for a career that would enable you to help others but that would give you lots of time to yourself? You may want to take a healthcare course for medical transcriptionists. This is a good career for independent types who would like to work on their own, even from their own home.
For the animal lover
Students who pursue healthcare training are often motivated by a desire to help others. But these "others" aren't necessarily human! Some colleges offer courses for students who aspire to work in a veterinarian's office. If you've ever taken an animal to a vet before, you will know that most vets have some support staff, for instance, to help hold the animal in place for a needle, or to make sure that samples get sent to the laboratory for testing.
Sound interesting to you? Call the schools in your area to see if they offer a healthcare course for veterinary support staff. If not, speak with a local veterinarian to find out what kind of healthcare training they would recommend for someone like you who loves to help animals.
To recap, it's not enough to say that you want a healthcare diploma. The field of healthcare is vast, and there is a healthcare course for every personality type. As Seneca said, "Our plans miscarry because they have no aim. When a man does not know what harbor he is making for, no wind is the right wind."

3 Reasons Why Auto Mechanic College Is Necessary These Days

In the 1940s, when North America was first becoming car-dependent, a young man (for it usually was men) who wanted to pursue an auto mechanic career did not necessarily seek out a training course. At that time, it made just as much sense to simply seek out an entry-level position in a garage. The pendulum, however, seems to have permanently swung in the opposite direction. Let's consider some of the factors that have normalized higher education for auto technicians over the past twenty years.
1. The electronic revolution
More than any other factor, the shift from mechanical to electronic components has increased the need for auto mechanic college.
Prior to the 1990s, mechanical aptitude was probably the premier skill required when it came to fixing cars. The more skilled you were with your hands, the better. If you really wanted to stand out as a star employee in the 40s, you would have been well advised to learn some machinist skills. In those days, mechanics were sometimes required to make their own parts, as replacement parts were not as easy to come by as they are now. Soldering, welding, these were the sought after skills of the time.
2. The tools of the trade cost more nowadays
Graduates of auto mechanic college today need much more than a wrench and a lathe. They need to know how to use sophisticated technology such as a dynamometer, a kind of indoor treadmill for ailing cars, that is not likely to be found in your average hobbyist's home garage.
The tools introduced in an auto mechanic course these days include:
- automatic lifts
- wheel balancers
- electronic diagnostic tools

By the time they graduate from college, students need to fully grasp the computerized tools of the trade. Instead of interacting directly with the vehicle, they will be interacting with it via a third party: technology.
3. The industry is changing
The car industry has surprised many by putting its nose to the grindstone and looking for cleaner transportation solutions to satisfy today's more climate-conscious consumers. The mechanics of tomorrow may find themselves servicing a different breed of vehicle entirely. It may belong to a car-share program, and, therefore, see more use in less time. It may be electric or hybrid, and require different know-how. Increasingly, graduates of an auto mechanic course may be asked to convert existing vehicles to cleaner technologies.
Auto mechanic college can open aspiring technicians' eyes to the changes coming in the future, and, in some cases, help them capitalize on these changes by encouraging them to develop a niche.
For these reasons and more, the car repair industry has forever changed. Making an auto mechanic career today is not at all what it was like, sixty, seventy years ago, and an auto mechanic college may be the best place for an aspiring technician to learn the trade.
